Defender Ben Radcliffe has joined Yeovil Town on a six-month loan spell from League Two side Crawley Town.
The 22-year-old spent 13 games on loan in the National League Premier Division at Gateshead last season having played the entire second half of the 2024-25 season for his parent club in League One.
He arrives following the announcement on Friday that central defender Dan Ellison had joined National League South side Salisbury on loan until January.
Announcing his arrival ahead of the final pre-season friendly with Newport County on Saturday morning, the club said the player would add “further quality and versatility” to the Glovers’ squad with Radcliffe capable of playing in the middle of defence and midfield.
If the defensive unit is to be his position, the loanee joins a number of new faces in the backline and could feature in today’s friendly alongside Joe Gubbins, Loick Ayina, Jack Kingdon, Hayden Muller, Jordan Norville-Williams, Archie Davies.
Having started his career in the Derby County academy, he joined Burton Albion’s youth set-up and had loan spells with Southern League Premier Division Central side Mickleover before being loaned to National League North side Banbury United.
His League debut for Burton came at the end of the 2022-23 season when he appeared as an 18th-minute substitute, but was released by the Brewers at the end of the campaign and subsequently joining Derby County’s under-21s set up but failed to make a League appearance despite making several matchday squads.
In September 2024 he joined Gateshead on loan before being brought back in to the Football League at Crawley by manager Rob Elliot, who had brought him in on loan at Gateshead. Despite Elliot’s sacking, Radcliffe went on to play 19 times at League One level with the Red Devils being relegated that season.
Elliot, by now back at Gateshead, brought him back on loan in February, and he was a regular presence for the Tynesiders until he was recalled by his parent club in late March after he picked up an injury.
