Glovers Past

Glovers Past from the Gloverscast is our series of interviews with former Yeovil Town FC players, managers and staff about their time at Huish Park.

Over the course of the Glovers Past series we’ve been lucky enough to speak to members of Russell Slade’s play off squad who gave us one of, if not the, greatest night of Yeovil Town’s history. That match at the City Ground where those green and white legends won 5-2, a 5-4 win on aggregate after losing 2-0 in the first leg, lives long in the memory of supporters. On this special episode of the Glovers Past, we bring you the memories of Lee Morris, Andy Lindegaard, Craig Alcock, Scott Guyett and Marcus Stewart.

They’ve only gone and done it.

Thanks to Len Copland for the use of his photos from that night at The City Ground and Chris Angulo of Green and White Goals on YouTube for the audio on the intro.

In the late ’90s and early 2000s, Yeovil had one of the steadiest right backs in the Conference. That man was Dave Piper and he is this month’s guest on the Glovers Past. Remembered for his dashing runs down the wing at Huish Park, he played more than 150 times during four seasons with the club and was in fact the first player to score in front of the home end after it was covered with a roof.

In 2009, a couple of young loanees turned up from Tottenham Hotspur and made an instant impact. One of those, Jonathan Obika, came back a further three times leaving a mini-mark on Huish Park. On this month’s Glovers Past, we catch up with the former striker who scored 24 times in his 77 appearances in green and white.

It’s the first Wednesday of the month and that means Glovers Past!

On this episode Dave is joined by Mike West of the Heritage Society to chat to former Yeovil winger Peter Conning about his time in green and white!

Having taken the summer off, we are back with another of our trips down green-and-white memory lane and our guest for this episode only spent at single season at Huish Park but is still remembered fondly by Yeovil Town supporters. Having joined in the club at the start of its first season in the Football League, Jake Edwards was a key part of Gary Johnson’s side which had a good tilt at the League Two play-offs and made the FA Cup third round to boot. We caught up with him during the closed season to ask him about his time with the club.

On this episode of the Glovers Past, we’ve gone down under to speak to a former Yeovil defender who enjoyed four years at Huish Park. Scott Guyett signed in 2004, winning League Two and was an important part of Russell Slade’s playoff side. Enjoy

In the 1970s, a name feared by every defender visiting Huish was John Clancy. Signed as a 20-year-old in 1969, he went on to make an incredible 563 appearances, scoring 78 goals. On our latest episode of GloversPast, speak to this true club legend.

On this episode we are joined by James Bent, a striker who made his first appearance in 1999 with the club managed by Steve Thompson and played under four separate Glovers’ managers.
