It was another narrow defeat on Saturday afternoon for Yeovil, as they fell to a 1-0 defeat in Greater Manchester to Oldham Athletic. Let’s see how the rest of the league got on…
We begin in Hampshire, where one of a handful of mouth-watering fixtures took place between early playoff contenders – Eastleigh came out on top at home in a 4-2 barnstormer over Rochdale, a Paul McCallum double helping the Spitfires end a two game losing run. There was another 4-2 result, but in favour of the away side in the Midlands, as Southend United defeated Solihull Moors, with a double from Aribim Pepple (absolutely incredible name) leading the Shrimpers to the three points.
Tuesday’s hosts Sutton United almost dropped points at home to Ebbsfleet United, however an Ashley Nadesan goal in the 77th minute rescued the three points in a 3-2 belter. In opposite circumstances, Altrincham threw away three points against a 10-man Boston United, who had their goalkeeper sent off. The hosts scored two goals in two minutes post-red card, but goals from Keaton Ward and Cameron Green earned a point for the Pilgrims. In the evening kickoff, it was a comfortable 3-0 win for Barnet in their local clash against Wealdstone, who now climb to the top of the table.
Mentioned earlier on were playoff contenders clashing, and here’s your next fixture for that – Gateshead were the hosts, but the visiting Forest Green Rovers were the victors in a 2-0 result that sent the Rovers into 2nd place. Life for AFC Fylde post-Chris Beech remains rosy, as the Coasters remain unbeaten in caretaker manager Nathan Delfouneso’s hands – they drew 1-1 at home to Woking, as Nick Haughton took his tally for the campaign to 8.
There were three 1-0 wins for away sides on Saturday as well, a dramatic 93rd winner from Tom Tonks handing Tamworth a huge three points against Braintree Town, an early Josh Umerah goal made it three wins on the bounce for Dagenham & Redbridge against Hartlepool United, and in a lowkey affair, FC Halifax Town took the three points courtesy of a Florent Hoti strike against Maidenhead United. In the final game of the day, Aldershot Town and York City played out a 0-0 draw.
