A familiar face will take charge of the Glovers this weekend as we welcome Southend United to Huish Park.
Scott Jackson is predominantly an EFL official these days, taking charge of a dozen or so games above the National League level this campaign.
In 14 appearances this season, he’s dished out 48 yellows and two reds.
We’ve seen him a fair few times at Huish Park, in fact, this weekend’s game will take him to 10 Glovers games officiated in his career across league and National Cup – the joint most alongside Woking, Wealdstone and Maidenhead, but it’s actually slightly more than that, as he also took charge of the Somerset Men’s Premier Cup final win over Bath City a couple of years ago.
We last had Mr Jackson in charge back in the 2022/23 season, in a home 0-0 draw with Wealdstone, Owen Bevan was sent off on that day for a rather … robust… challenge, no real arguments from us.
However, roll back the calendar to Boxing Day of 2021, he took charge of a disastrous 3-0 defeat to Torquay United, he sent off Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and then, after the final whistle, also gave Grant Smith his marching orders, which would mean he would miss the New Years’ game against Torquay and, the FA Cup clash against Bournemouth – so basically, Jackson is at fault for the whole ‘Dillon Barnes thing’ (well, ok, not quite).
Beyond that, he was in charge when Rhys Murphy scored a hat-trick to put the claret and blue Seagull Botherers in their place earlier that season, and also when we won 3-1 in home ties against Barnet and Kings Lynn – overall, we have a rather good record in games that Mr Jackson has officiated.
Mr Jackson will be assisted by Ryan Saward and Ivan Stankovic with Neil Pratt marshalling the dugouts.
