Richard Dryden has said he doesn’t expect any new signings before the Glovers head to Hemel Hempstead Town in the FA Cup this weekend.
Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Jack Killah, he said that he’s appreciated the full week’s build up to the game;

“Yeah, the structure is good. I mean, we we had a good hard day on Tuesday, which we we haven’t been able to do, like you say, because of the amount of games midweek. We’ll have quite a hard day again Thursday and then Friday we’re going on to 4G to replicate [Hemel’s surface]
We’re trying to keep the same same level of consistency in training. So nothing changes. Just you just want to be more determined to win games.”
Yeovil Town crashed out of the FA Cup to lower league opposition in last year’s competition and Dryden knows just what a cup run could mean to any non-league side.

“The FA Cup is is beneficial to the lower leagues. Everybody in the qualifying now wants to get through to the first round, not just for the the glory of it, but it’s financially good as well. So Hemel have the same ideas about us, wanting to get through. So it’s a tough place to go. You know, we’ve watched a lot of clips on them, they’re well organized. Very athletic. So you know, we’ve done our due diligence like we do with every game. So we’re going to get set up for them.”

Hemel Hempstead will pose some challenges having suffered defeat just once all season and playing on the dreaded fake 4G pitch, but the Yeovil manager knows this and said his team are ready for what the game will throw at them.“If you look you look at the sides who could potentially win [the National League South] at the start of the season and who can potentially win it now, there is a lot of sides. There’s a lot of good sides in there. There’s a lot of sides that have gone full time as well. So, we’re under no illusions. We’re going to be up against it on Saturday. Obviously, some of these boys here will have had experience of playing on on 4Gs more regularly when they were playing in National League South.

When the winter comes and you’re playing on mud baths, 4Gs are pretty good. So, we’ve got no excuses. We’re going to we’re going to train on it tomorrow. I think one day enough training up will be enough for for the lads, you know. We just get on with the job.”

Squad size has been one of the big talking points in recent weeks, and Dryden acknowledges that numbers are light.
He didn’t disclose which of the loanees will (or wont) be available due to their parent clubs’ rules [ed. Although having Jed Ward on media duties suggests he should be OK to play], with injuries to a couple of players and yellow cards starting to add up, he gave us an update on how the squad is looking.

“We might miss one or two on Saturday. We’ve been actively looking for players to bring in. Listen we’ve got lots of loans now. We’ve got to start looking at players to come  into our squad to help us. So, we’ve been looking at that this week. It’s a little bit slower than what we want. That sometimes happens. I understand that. So, we’re actively looking to build the squad. But we’ll have enough to turn out on Saturday.  What we’ve looked at, I can’t see too many people coming before the deadline Friday.

[Jake Wannell will] be fit. He’ll be fine. It was just more of a tactical thing, you know, when we change it at half time and also we looked at him, you know, let’s go two at the back. So, we decided he’s been struggling and he was a logical one to take off and to rest a bit more.

[James Daly and Jacob Maddox] are on the grass, they’re involved in the warm up, a bit of ball work sometimes when we’re doing shape, for want of a better word, they’re better than the mannequins because they can’t have any contact yet so there’s a little bit of movement then when we’re when we’re working against um against shape so they’re coming on nicely. [Charlie Cooper] he’s getting there bit by bit.”

Is anyone really interested? Is our club in a better place with new owners? The atmosphere comes
across as soulless and seems unlikely to improve anytime soon. Webb situation was farcical, and
we still don’t know what happened and likely never will.Know what? I’m not interested anymore either!
