This season, the Gloverscast is tracking all Man of the Match votes cast by you, our listeners and readers.

Then at the end of every month, we’ll tally the totals and declare YOUR Player of the Month.

Each Man of the Match winner will get three points added to their tally, second place gets two, third place gets one.

In the event of a tie, the number of 1st, then 2nd, then 3rd place spots in any given month will determine their place in the monthly standings.

For August, there was a fairly clear cut winner with Bristol Rovers loanee Jed Ward claiming four out of the six possible MOTM votes.

Josh Sims snatched second with a poll-topping performance against Halifax on Saturday, which means Harvey Greenslade takes the Bronze medal for August.

Be sure to vote match by match for your best of the bunch for YTFC and we’ll have as large of a database as possible to tally the team up!

Josh Sims has taken his first Man of the Match poll of the season for a brilliant display against FC Halifax Town.

The winger, who has a couple of goals to his name this season, turned provider for Harvey Greenslade’s goal and gave their left back a bit of a torrid time all afternoon.

That goal scorer Greenslade came 2nd in the vote, with Junior Morias in third.

The fixtures are coming thick and fast for Yeovil Town, as they head to the Midlands for Tuesday night game against Solihull Moors.

FORM…

Yeovil Town

It hasn’t been a good start to the season for the Glovers. With six games under their belts, Yeovil have struggled to find their groove and manager Mark Cooper has paid the price.

On Saturday at FC Halifax Town, it was more of the same from a team lacking in confidence. Interim manager Richard Dryden put out a strong side to face the Yorkshire-men, and it looked positive for most of the first-half. That was until Owen Bray popped up to score the opening goal of the game for the home team.

Yeovil equalised through a Junior Morias penalty, before Harvey Greenslade put the visitors into the lead. However, for a second consecutive game, the Glovers squandered their lead, as Bray got his second. With 10 minutes left of the game, and Dryden’s men looking to get back on the road with a point, substitute Will Harris gave FC Halifax the lead and all three points.

The manager may have changed, but the results have not.

Solihull Moors

Believe it or not, Solihull have made an even worse start than Yeovil, they currently sit rock bottom of the Enterprise National League Premier Division. The season started off with draws in their first three fixtures, which included a 2-2 draw against Forest Green Rovers on the opening day, when they were down to ten men. However, since a 1-1 draw with Carlisle it has been a bit of a horror show for Moors conceding nine and scoring only two in the proceeding three games.

In their last match, at home to Southend, they lost 2-1 thanks to a brace from old boy Andrew Dallas with Solihull’s only goal coming through Dan Creaney.

KEY PLAYERS…

Yeovil Town –Junior Morias

There is a reason why players who score earn the big money and Morias is definitely one of them. The well-travelled striker has shown throughout his career he knows where the goal is, and it hasn’t been any different here in Somerset. Before joining the Glovers in the summer, the 30-year-old was on loan at Dagenham & Redbridge from Notts County, where he contributed to a goal 14 times in 30 games, scoring 11 goals.

Having joined up with Yeovil part-way through pre-season, Morias needing to to get up to speed, playing just 29 minutes in the first two games. It has been in the previous two fixtures though that former Peterborough man quality has really shone through, with two goals and an assist.

So far this term, Morias is playing in an attacking midfielder role, a position he has rarely played throughout his career. Normally in the role as centre-forward the Kingston man has found himself playing behind Harvey Greenslade, but the change in position seems to have helped both him and Greenslade to date.

Solihull Moors – Dan Creaney

The striker has so far been the main man in a rather disappointing Solihull Moors side, with two goal and an assist to his name. Creaney joined The Moors from Tamworth in the summer after an impressive scoring season last term. The striker bagged 19 goals to help keep Tamworth in the league and even played a part in his sides unforgettable FA Cup run.

As mentioned with Morias a man who can find the back of the net  consistently is a worth their weight in gold in any league, and especially in the National League and Creaney’s record shows how invaluable he will be to manager Matt Taylor.

THE GAFFER…

The man in the dug-out in the Solihull Moors is a familiar face in the shape of former Portsmouth player, Matt Taylor. As a player, he was known for scoring what can only be described as ‘belters’, he was a peak Barclaysman. Taylor, played predominantly as a left sided midfielder for Portsmouth, Bolton, West Ham and Burnley making over 300 appearances in the Premier League.

Now as manager, the 43-year-old hasn’t had the same longevity at clubs as did as player, with his longest stint at coming at Shrewsbury Town where lasted 35 games. Taylor, first step into management came at Walsall in 2021 where he managed for just under a year. After some time out of the game, he returned to management at Shrewsbury, lasting half a season. He then joined Wealdstone a couple of months later, where he again got the chop before becoming manager at Solihull in the summer.

During his career as a manager, Taylor has faced Yeovil twice, losing both games – most recently last March when the Glovers ran out 3-0 winners at Damson Park.

LAST TIME WE MET…

The sides last met in March when Yeovil ran out 3-0 winners at Damson Park. The Glovers took the lead that day through Josh Sims in the 28th minute. It was then in the second half where Yeovil went through the gears, doubling their lead when Sims found Ciaran McGuckin on 50 minutes. The win was sealed six minutes later when Alex Whittle popped up with a spectacular finish from outside the box to make it 0-3.

Ciaran McGuckin celebrates Yeovil’s second goal.

With the return fixture, seeing Solihull win 1-0 at Huish Park thanks to a goal from Connor Wilkinson.

DON’T I KNOW YOU…

Emmanuel Sonupe anyone? Remember him? No? The former Tottenham Hotspur academy midfielder who was going to be the next big thing when Darren Sarll brought him to Huish Park in November 2020. He played 15 matches, scored twice and left at the end of the season before going to play for Dartford and then had spells in the USA and UAE.

Well, he signed for Solihull last week and appeared as an 82nd minute substitute in their 2-1 defeat at home to Southend United on Saturday.

Emmanuel Sonupe, remember him now? Still no? Okay.

THE MAN IN THE MIDDLE…

Saturday’s fixture will see Harrison Blair take charge of his first Gllovers’ game. For more information on the match officials, read Ben’s article here.

Yeovil Town owner Prabhu Srinivasan interviewed during a visit to Huish Park.

Yeovil Town owner Prabhu Srinivasan has told the club’s supporters not to expect an immediate appointment of a new manager following the sacking of Mark Cooper.

The club posted a video message from the Dubai-based businessman on Monday afternoon where he said that the club would be going through “a full thought through scientific process” as it looks to select its candidate.

He said: “I want you folks to know this is not a quick fix. This is not a send in your CV and get hired process, our global experience and our partners who have football experience and probably played in the football arena before and have been chairmen and directors, we have all come together to find the right manager .

We are looking at the technical skills, background of the coach/manager, external validation, most importantly the way the person connects with the first team and how he communicates with the supporters and media.

This is a full thought through, scientific process, it might take a little time but I ask all of you to support us, be with us through this journey. For us to build a sustainable club going forward, I have said this many times, this is not an ego buy, it is all of us coming together to do what is right for the club.

The club has appointed coach Richard Dryden in chairman of first-team affairs whilst they seek a new manager. He took charge of Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at FC Halifax Town and will be in the dug-out when the Glovers travel to Solihull Moors on Tuesday night.

Well, we’re a month(ish) into the season and it’s fair to say it’s been eventful. The Glovers started with a 0-0 draw at home to Hartlepool before whimpering to a 2-0 at Forest Green Rovers. An unconvincing win against Brackley followed before defeats by Braintree Town and Gateshead sealed Mark Cooper’s fate. Yeovil finished August with a 3-2 loss at FC Halifax Town on Saturday.

The monthly YeoGov is back now we’ve kicked off so let us know what you’re thinking on sevon-point scale. It’s the usual questions around performance around the club and the optional matchday experience one and this month we want to know if you think the club were right to relieve Mark Cooper of this managerial duties.

It’s back by popular demand – well some of you seemed to like it – the Gloverscast fans’ quiz is back for its second edition.

We’ve cooked up another set of Yeovil Town brain-teasers with the hopefully more familiar three categories – Golden Oldies, Facts and Stats, some more recent trivia in The Day Today, and this month’s Fans’ Favourite is about the one and only Super Gavin Williams.

Whether you’re a Thatchers’ Stand veteran, an exile or just here for the trivia, here’s a few questions to get your green-and-white neurons firing.

Only one supporter got 100% in the first edition, so good luck to all trying for a perfect score this time – up the Gloves!

Back by popular demand (well, we enjoyed writing it), the Gloverscast Fans' Quiz returns for its second installment. Whether you're a Thatchers' End veteran, an exile or just here for the nostalgia, there's something to get your green-and-white neurons firing.

On a wet Saturday afternoon, it was further heartbreak for Yeovil Town, as they fell to a narrow 3-2 defeat away at FC Halifax Town, which you can read more about here. Let’s see what else happened in the National League on Saturday…

We begin in Tyne and Wear, where Gateshead and Aldershot Town played out an exciting 3-3 draw – Kyle Hurst got the scoring underway just five minutes in for the hosts, before Kwame Thomas and Cameron Hargreaves gave the visitors the lead before half-time. Two goals in two minutes from the aforementioned Hurst, and Harry Chapman, handed the Heed the lead once again, but Hady Ghandour equalised for the Shots with 13 minutes to go to share the points.

Rochdale took their spot at the top of the table with a convincing 3-1 win at Wealdstone; Aidan Barlow and Devante Rodney gave the visitors the lead going into half-time, before yet another Mani Dieseruvwe strike put the game to bed, Alfie Massey getting the consolation goal for the hosts. Truro City registered their first ever National League points with a 3-0 thumping over Boston United, as Rekeil Pyke opened the scoring just before half-time, Tyler Harvey scoring a penalty just four minutes into the second half, and Will Dean adding a third just five minutes later. Former Glover Aidan Stone made his league debut for the Tinners too, keeping a clean sheet.

There were three 2-1 score lines, with the most impressive coming at Sutton United, Edon Pruti and David Ogbonna scoring for the hosts to register an impressive victory over Carlisle United, Georgie Kelly netting a consolation for the visitors. In the lunchtime kickoff, Southend United continued their impressive start to the campaign with a win over Tuesday night’s hosts Solihull Moors, two Andrew Dallas goals sandwiching a Dan Creaney effort for the home side. The final 2-1 result saw Eastleigh defeat Altrincham, as summer Yeovil target James Gale scored for the visitors in the first half, before Kieron Evans and Harvey Saunders secured the three points for the Hampshire side.

Woking secured their first win of the campaign on their travels to Morecambe, former Glover Jamie Andrews bagging one of the goals, and Sam Ashford finishing off the scoring for the visitors in the 94th minute. In the evening kickoff, a 98th minute goal from Danny Waldron cancelled out a Danny Whitehall penalty, as Brackley Town and 10-man Scunthorpe United shared the points, while there were 0-0 draws for Braintree Town and Forest Green Rovers, and Hartlepool United and Boreham Wood.

York City and Tamworth didn’t play on Saturday, due to the former’s continued involvement with the Women’s Rugby World Cup.

National League table

Sherborne Town will finish the weekend top of the Wessex League Premier Division after a 3-0 win on Saturday.

The Zebras beat Cowes Sports fairly comfortably, with the third goal come from young Glover Ollie Hughes.

What’s more, Jaydon Biss, George Geraghty and Blake Watts were all named in the squad  whilst Joe Crisp was so influential in midfield he was named Man of the Match. Nice work from all the lads.

We’re keeping an eye on Bridport FC as well this season, with two new names to keep tabs on.

Matt Reed and Alec Thomas continue to get valuable minutes in the adult game and they were part of the squad for the ‘Port’s 4-1 win over Middlezoy Rovers on Saturday.

They also had a midweek game, a 6-0 win over Honiton, Thomas played the whole game and Reed was used from the bench.

So, they, like Sherborne sit top of their league – South West Peninsula League – Premier East.

A midweek in the midlands for the Glovers with an away day at Solihull Moors.

It will be a match of significance for referee Harrison Blair who will take charge of his first match at this level as well as his first ever Yeovil Town game.

A regular match official for the Regional divisions of the National League as well as plenty of experience as a fourth official in the EFL, in recent seasons.

Blair has a rather cool story to tell from his journey to this point having spent time refereeing in Japan earlier this year.

He was part of an exchange program between the JFA and the FA PGMOL where he got to take charge of some league games and even a J League Cup tie.

He’s not afraid to use a card (or three), in 28 National League South games, he’s brandished the yellow one 86 times, the red one five times and pointed the spot five times as well.

Jordan Brooks and Grzegorz Kornasiewicz (yes, I copied and pasted that) are waving the flags, Kevin Howick is on subs board duties.

Harvey Greenslade celebrates a goal.

Yeovil Town goal-scorer Harvey Greenslade said his team-mates know they need to defend better after losing from a winning position for the second consecutive game.

The Glovers led 2-1 with an hour gone at FC Halifax Town but ended up on the end of a 3-2 defeat just five days after being 3-0 up at home to Gateshead and coming away with nothing, a result which spelt the end of Mark Cooper’s time as manager.

Greenslade put the visitors ahead in West Yorkshire with a superb near post header from Josh Sims’ cross just before the hour mark at The Shay, but defensive errors cost them again as they conceded two goals to squander three points.

Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Josh Perkins after the game, the former Bristol Rovers man said: “We have gone from not scoring at the start of the season to scoring quite a few goals. We should not have lost that game and we should not have lost the Gateshead game, so we need to be better as a group, it is not just the defenders, we need to be better defending the goal for the whole 90 minutes. It was too good a performance to chuck it away.”

Greenslade had some great opportunities to put Yeovil ahead before Halifax midfielder scored the first of his brace a minute in to first half injury time and he admitted he should have done better with the chances.

He added: “There were a couple in the first half when the ball was bouncing a bit and I felt like I could have had one or two goals, so that is annoying. It is nice for me and that is obviously two goals in two games for me now, but it is not about personal pride for me it is about helping the team. The team has helped me when I have been out of the team and now I have to repay them.

Yeovil Town's players jump on striker Harvey Greenslade after his 58th minute goal.
Yeovil Town celebrate Harvey Greenslade’s goal.

Asked about the current managerial situation with interim boss Richard Dryden, who was brought on to the coaching staff by Cooper in the summer, whilst the club look for a permanent replacement, Greenslade added: “It is strange. Speaking for myself, I have never worked for the Gaffer (Richard Dryden) before, I really liked working with Mark (Cooper) and now having to go under new management is a bit of a change, but the lads are approaching it professionally and we have just got to get on with it.”

Yeovil have an opportunity to put right the mistakes of the past two matches when they travel to a Solihull Moors side sat bottom of the National League Premier Division table after six matches on Tuesday night.

Speaking about that game, the striker said: “I want to say thanks to the fans for making the journey, Halifax is not that close to Yeovil! We have a really good fanbase and when things turn around, which they will, the place will be bouncing at Huish Park. Even today we could hear them all game and hopefully we will see them on Tuesday as well. It is a must win for us, we have to focus on getting those three points. We can’t keep losing when we have been winning, that is two games in a row now, I will do everything I can to help the team and I know the boys will do everything they can to bring the points back.
