After 10 fixture-less days, Mark Cooper‘s table-topping Glovers return to Huish Park this Saturday to face Hemel Hempstead. The Tudors inflicted defeat on Yeovil Town on the opening day and the boss says his side have not forgotten that afternoon in Hertfordshire.

Cooper told BBC Somerset’s Jack Killah: “I know that they beat us in the game and really enjoyed their victory, which we remember, and they’ve got some good players. They’ve got one of the best players that I’ve I’ve ever coached in, George Williams, terrific talent, beset with injuries at a crucial time. But like I said, every week they [the opposition] have threats.”

Following the 1-0 win at Taunton last Tuesday, Cooper’s players had a break and the manager said after a busy schedule, they’ve returned looking refreshed.

“We gave the players a break to get their legs back. [We] didn’t want them to think anything about football, just wanted them to switch off and go and recharge, which they did. [It was a] really good time for them, I think, to go and have a break and they’ve come back really refreshed, [we’ve had] a really good full week’s training for us in preparation for a home game on Saturday.

“I just think mentally, you know, they had a really tough schedule, busy, busy schedule, the pressure to win every week and the bonus was that we went to Taunton and won, which meant that break was even sweeter for them,” he added.

The manager also said that he wasn’t talking about the 13-point (mind the) gap at the top of the league (no one is Mark, don’t worry!) and encourage everyone to get behind one big, final push.

“If I’m being really honest, we don’t talk about that [THE MASSIVE GAP]. We just talk about the next game now. So far, the season has been magnificent. Everybody in the club, everybody involved, top to bottom, supporters have been magnificent. Now we’ve got 20 games left. We need one final, final, big push from everyone and and the supporters have got a massive part to play to get behind the players.

“I think everybody turns up now to Huish Park expecting us to win but sometimes it’s gonna be difficult and I don’t think they realise how important they are to the players. Let’s get behind the boys from the start and keep behind them for for 95 minutes and you know, let’s not wait, let’s make sure we’re right behind the team.

Cooper also touched on recruitment, squad-building and the signing of Jay Foulston: “We’ve got a really good age to our squad in terms of the average age and the varying ages we’ve got. Certainly what we’re trying to do is build a squad that’s not just really good for now, but it’s really good for the years to come and we’ve got a lot of longevity and in people like Jay.

“That’s the way we’re trying to build the squad, more of a data-based way of recruitment with location in mind. Jay fits perfectly into that. He can play numerous positions, he’s got competition at left back. We’ve got a really, really good left back in Whittle. But Jay can play left midfield, play left centre back, so great signing for us.”

Cooper also spoke about the signing of Sam Pearson, which you can read here.

Jay Foulston said the move to Huish Park was ‘perfect’. The left back joined Yeovil on loan from Taunton Town in December and said it was always his dream to get back into full time football.

Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Jack Killah about his transfer and the change, the Welshman said: “It’s a massive change obviously. Like it beats getting up and going to work every day, d’you know what I mean? It beats being at work with my old man and stuff. It’s really good. That was always my dream, to get back in the full time football. So when the opportunity came up, it was it was just perfect for me, really.”

Foulston talked about his time out with injury last year, and talk about the rigours of going through injury in a part time environment.

“I was out for six months in total. Obviously it was tough, because when you’re not in full time football, you don’t have full time, physios, etc. So it’s really down to yourself to get back, to get yourself back fit, to get yourself back out there and everything. So it was tough. It was a long period, obviously. You know, you have good times, bad times, but yeah, it’s just like it’s all worth it now when you come to a club like this and you’re back playing and everything. So it’s all it’s all worth it in the end.”

Ahead of the visit of Hemel Hempstead, Foulston was looking forward to getting back into the action after a period without a match: “Sometimes people might think you might get complacent if you have a weekend off, but the spirit is high here, everyone’s tight. Everyone’s pushing each other.

“Everyone’s just going for it. It’ll be good now to get back out in front of the home fans again this Saturday and it’ll be rocking again as well. But with the way that we’re going and the spirit and everything, it’s really good at the minute,” he added.

Ask about what he wanted to achieve between now and the end of the season, Foulston said: “Obviously, you want to just get on the pitch as many times as you can. You want to contribute to the team. You know? You want to get goals, assists, but you want to keep clean sheets as well. That’s first and foremost as a defender, you wanna keep clean sheets, no goals conceded. But yeah, it’s obviously nice then in possession if you can get forward, pick up a few assists, pick up a few goals, that’s the aim really.”

After a week off, Ian, Dave and Ben are back to chat through the return of Sam Pearson and preview the visit of Hemel Hempstead.

Ian’s fingers have finally thawed out after a chilly evening in Taunton as Yeovil Town ran out victors. The gap at the top of the National League South has widened and here are his conclusions from the County town.

Frank Nouble was the difference maker. It was a game of few opportunities and when they weren’t kicking lumps out of Yeovil players, Taunton defended well. When the big chance came, Frank Nouble took it with conviction. The assist from Worthington was laid on with precision but Nouble still had work to do before beating Taunton’s keeper. It’s four goals in four games for Nouble and his connection with supporters is getting stronger each week.

Sonny Blu Lo-Everton took his chance. After an exciting cameo against Bath, Lo-Everton was given the opportunity from the start against Taunton and I really enjoyed his performance again. He was direct, carried the ball through midfield and some of his touches were sublime. When he plays like that, Sonny is a joy to watch and to see him further forward gives yet another attacking combination up top.

We seemed to pick up a few knocks. The break couldn’t come at a better time. Rhys Murphy came on and went back off again after feeling his hamstring. At the time, Josh Owers was poised to come on at Charlie Cooper appeared to be struggling. Jordan Young was subjected to some pretty forceful tackles. With ten days until the visit of Hemel Hempstead, there’s a nice chunk of time to rest, recuperate and come back refreshed for the home stretch.

I’d be surprised if we extended Courtney Senior’s loan. The midfielder has shown glimpses of trickery and pace and I totally understand the logic behind his signing before Christmas. He was swapped for Rhys Murphy at half time and with the addition of Dylan Morgan I think we’ve got strength in depth in that position now. Will Dawes is growing increasingly popular and Jordan Stevens will return to training at the end of January, so we’ve got plenty of options. There’s definitely a player there, but I’m not sure we’ve seen the best of him. We were worried about options a few weeks ago, and we have managed that situation well.

And now you’re gonna believe us. Thirteen points clear. Momentum is with Mark Cooper’s team. The players are a close-knit group, that clearly believe. The teams below are wildly inconsistent and we are anything but. I know we’ve been scarred from the last decade, and as supporters we will always keep our expectations low, but come on, deep down know what’s happening here…

Those who pay close attention to Companies House will have seen the update of the termination of Mark Robinson as a Director at club.

Robinson, who was appointed to the board on 25th May following the takeover by Martin Hellier last year, had worked at the club as Commercial Manager since 2019.

The change means the current ‘active’ directors on Companies House are Martin Hellier, Rhys Rosser and Stuart Robins.

Yeovil Town won again at Huish Park against Bath in a game where the Glovers weren’t at their ‘fluent best’ according to Mark Cooper. It was an important win, putting Yeovil 10 points clear at the top and here are Ian’s Conclusions from a bouncing Thatchers Stand…

It was a controlled performance. In the match at Twerton Park the Glovers never really felt in control of the game, but it was different at Huish Park. We controlled possession and after Jordan Young’s opener I thought we were comfortable. It wasn’t until the second half and Bath’s long ball where they started to get forward, and even then we won everything and looked resolute at the back.

The first goal was a moment of magic. It was the only part of the match where things really flowed and it was Cooperball at its sumptuous best. Frank Nouble’s pass split Bath’s defence, it was inch perfect to feet of Michael Smith and his one touch pass couldn’t have been any better for Jordan Young to finish. We did that against Taunton frequently but Bath were a trickier proposition and we had to take our chances when they fell. Mark Cooper described it as a ‘trademark goal’ and it was a pattern of play we’ve grown familiar with.

I thought we invited Bath onto us with the switch to a back three. With Cody Cooke’s introduction, Bath changed tact to get the ball forward quickly and in the air. Williams and Wannell dealt with it well. Jay Foulston came on in the left of a back three and it felt like Bath grew into it. Thomas got more of the ball and we got deeper and deeper. Once Dylan Morgan came on and we switched to a back four again, we regained control with a lot of help from…

Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, who made a big impact off the bench. I thought Sonny was quality, almost like he a point to prove. He was direct, forward-thinking and really got Bath chasing back towards goal. At the time we needed someone to step in and alleviate the pressure and he did it it brilliantly. Being able to bring on someone with his ability (and the rest of the bench to be fair) is a big part of the reason why we’re 10 points clear at the top.

It’s going to take a catastrophic collapse to let this slip. The gulf between Yeovil and the rest of the league is clear. Mark Cooper’s side have been the only consistent team at the top end of the League. Yesterday, Hampton lost, Torquay drew and Worthing lost. At home we’re imperious and you’d bank on us against everyone at Huish Park. Maidstone away could be tricky, but with their cup run the subsequent fixture pile up could come back to bite them. This group has every reason to be confident, and Mark Cooper will keep them grounded to get the job done, but win against crisis-stricken Taunton on Tuesday night and a gap of 13 points is surely insurmountable for the chasing pack.

Frank Nouble hailed Yeovil 2-0 win over Bath City as ‘brilliant’ and is happy to be scoring crucial goals in the Glovers quest to return to the National League.

It was wasn’t a classic afternoon at Huish Park, but it was a determined performance from Mark Cooper’s side, with Nouble playing an important part in both goals.

“[It was a] brilliant afternoon for us, result wise. And I think performance all round was good. [They’re a] tough team to play against, I thought Bath came with a game plan and I think it executed it quite well. I think early goal is what we planned to get and we got that. [There was] not much in it, but I think we controlled the game better than we did at their place.”

Nouble scored Yeovil’s second from point blank range, at an important time and the strike said how he enjoys a tap in: “I never get them type of goals. In my career, I’ve always been more of the player that creates a chance for someone else to then go and score a goal and for me to get a goal like that is really pleasing. I prefer them type of goals than, you know, a strike from outside the box or something like that and them type of goals, I really do appreciate, you know. Got in there in the right place, right time.

“It’s good to get these goals that I am getting because they’re crucial, crucial goals. You know, if we’re getting goals, winning 4 or 5-1 every week, they won’t feel the same, because they’re winning goals and they’re important goals. They mean a lot, So if it’s ten long may it continue and hopefully I can get to 15 and 20 if I get so lucky.”

Nouble’s brilliant pass to Michael Smith in the first half allowed the full back to put the ball on a silver platter for Jordan Young to open the scoring. He said: “At the beginning of the game we’re trying to give all energy and intensity as high as possible, but the opposition obviously play a part in that as well and I thought they started brightly, so it was quite hard to get involved in the game.

“But that is our game plan: to get certain players in certain positions, Youngy and Courtney Senior and myself behind Murphy to try execute an attack and luckily enough that move worked perfectly and then if we watch it back, it’s probably a good goal. Good passing move and obviously Young at the end finishing it well.”

The sponsor’s man of the match also waxed lyrical about Michael Smith (who doesn’t). “We’re lucky to have him. All the boys really appreciate him, you know, his professionalism. It’s the way he trains and plays the game. He’s never stressed and he’s a calming figure to see on the pitch. And he attacks, he’s very attacking fullback at his tender age. He wouldn’t mind me saying that. We’re very lucky to have him and long may it continue that he stays at this club.”

When asked about his move to Huish Park and the future, Nouble said there’s plenty more he wants to do for the Glovers: “I’ve been to a lot of clubs. I’ve had a lot of good times and some bad times as well, of course, but this is one of my favourite moves of course. I’ll definitely say that the job is not done yet and even this season, you know, if we do get promoted, which we plan on doing, that’s only maybe a third of the goals that I want to achieve at this club. I wanna get this club back to the EFL and I think that’s what everyone wants to do here. Slowly but surely. Hopefully we can keep pushing in the right direction.”
