Yeovil Town has confirmed manager Danny Webb has resigned as manager just one game in to the job.

The Glovers released a shock statement on Monday morning confirming the decision had been taken “due to personal and family reasons” following the 1-0 defeat at Tamworth on Saturday.

In the statement, the club said that first-team coach Richard Dryden, who took temporary charge following the sacking of former boss Mark Cooper, would now take charge for the rest of the season.

The statement said: “He has expressed his personal sadness in having to leave the club but feels this is the right decision for him and his family. The time and the nature of this decision is met with disappointment from all of us and we have accepted his resignation with regret, but with understanding.

We understand this news is disappointing, especially after the thorough recruitment process which brought Danny to the club. While we respect his need to put his family first, our priority now has to be the team’s stability and success.

The news comes as a huge surprise after the boss spoke about his desire to bring new players to the club following his first game in charge at the weekend.

Speaking to BBC Radio Somerset after the match, Webb said: “I knew the magnitude of the job when I came in and having seen it with my own eyes. Sadly, we were missing actually, first half that little bit of quality when we won the ball back, and a real lack of pace and physicality in our team. I think we’re down to work straight away to recruit, get some players in.”

The Gloverscast has approached the club’s owners to ask for further comment in to today’s news. As soon as we have something, we will let you know.

I am genuinely stunned. I don’t know why we can’t just have a normal day at this football club, it’s a never ending circus. More clarity and honesty is needed ASAP, and reasons as to why Dryden is suddenly the right man for the job, whereas he wasn’t last week. ‘Until the end of the season’ is fine when you’ve got 5 games left, not when you’ve only played 10.

One more event at YTFC that goes on the rather high pile: “didn’t plan for that one – never saw that coming!”

If DW did indeed leave for personal and/or family reasons, perhaps a question needs to be added to the interview: “Are you AND your family willing to move to the area for at least 2-years?”. That aside, and assuming statement is reflective of the actual reason, I genuinely hope DW and his family are ok.

What the hell happened on Sunday? There’s more to this. We thought was April 1st too. Surely, a re-look at the shortlisted candidates would be appropriate at the very least. And on goes the rollercoaster that is YTFC. If we’re all shell shocked, what are our players feeling, we must get behind them and Richard or we’ll be relegated.

What a shambles
Completely and utterly !
One crisis to another!
So much for the in depth interviews we supposedly were conducting for the manager position!
That didn’t work did it !
I wish Danny and his family well but be nice just to have a few words to the fans
And I’ve nothing against Richard but tell the board to phone Steve cottrell NOW!!

Total and utter failure from all concerned.

The farce that is YTFC continues unabated.

Serious question around the ability to remain in this division now I would suggest.

Ability to be at a level where we could even contemplate buying back our stadium and surrounding land now seems further away than ever.

What price our latest “saviour” cashing in on what’s left (what is left?) making a few quid and finding a more stable and lucrative opportunity elsewhere?

A sad reminder that once the asset strip is done, you’re pretty much done.

Why does everyone suddenly think we’ll get relegated? It’s September!

From the fans perspective the appointment of Dryden shows a massive lack of intent. If it seems that DW requested funds to improve the very small squad he would jump now which is fair should his request be denied. It’s the size of the squad which will determine the clubs future. The Owner now has a choice . Fail to bring in a competent manager or face a season of discontent both on and off the field. This is is being the owner of a football club is all about. We are becoming the laughing stock of this division .

Adge61, I agree get Steve Cotterell now, we really need a good manager and I think he fits the bill, come on owner, get your hands in your pocket as we fans are calling for Steve Cotterell now, while there is still time to keep us up 👍

Whatever the situation with DW, the worst news of all is the appointment of Dryden for the rest of the season, this is a very worrying situation

Shame DW was saying all the right things and I was generally getting excited for the rest of the season. That said I hope Danny and his family are OK. Drydan to steady the ship until a new manager is found would of been OK but until the end of the season sorry but not for me.How are we going to attract players and build a squad now. Worrying times ahead

Another Helier!!! All promises and never deliver, who was on the short list for the managers job? Why hasn’t the owner gone out to get someone with experience in this devision, is the owner walking around with his eyes closed? There is good managers out there, so why hasn’t the owner bothered to look?
And puts no hopers in charge!!!

Martin, I’m glad to see you here. In your farewell statement as chairman you said that the two years you spent in charge. “Served to prepare the club to go on to the next level under the ownership of Inflection holdings.” Do you still believe that to be the case?

No. I’m sorry, I needed an out. Stuart Robins did the full diligence, Entirely. You all have to remember, you praised the guy universally when he came in. You did.

Here’s my theory. If you run a club into administration, all directors are removed. Administrators come in, you lose the buy back rights, you lose everything.

However, if you technically have a trading club, you have the buy back rights, no matter how many time relegated.

It was the land always. And listen here is a simple notion and answer it.

If someone brings in INVESTORS to build all that would be built, how can that bring revenue to the club, when investors want their investment and profit? Its f stupid to think otherwise,

I spent £4m, I was abused, as was my son, I contemplated suicide, what was to f gain for me. but for the community uplift? What? Where?

We did our best, and this situation exists because i was abused beyond fucking words. I cannot be what I am and be universally loved, but I am so sorry you expedited my departure.

Should I be sorry for the situation you are in? Yes I am, but I was betrayed instantly, by Robins, by all.

Mark? They gave him a budget 500,000 less than mine last year,

Shake of this fucking disease amongst you to hate everything that comes good. But it simply got to a time for me when I could not lose £100k a month and be driven to the abyss. I loved that club, I loved improving your matchday experience.

Haters, say your nasty stuff in response to this. I spend my days in a far better place,

Maybe never say never. Who knows, but what did I gain? Im sorry if someone called me a cunt or threatened to bottle my son, I replied as a man and a parent before speaking as a chairman,

It’s called gumption. I had it. Mark had, Wesso who they’ve fired had it. Now we are gone.

Loved you all. And Gloverscast.

I’m sorry. Every hateful comment to me, put you here. And say all you want. Fuck do I care these days, I have 4 million reasons not to.

So in your honest opinion. You believe that inflection holdings don’t care if there is success on the pitch or not?

Ken blakeman

This club goes from one embarrassment to another. Surely it’s safe to assume that whatever Danny was promised before taking the role was retracted after getting his first real look at the squad on Saturday.

This has got to fall firmly at the owners feet for me. I for one have been asking questions about this ownership group since Nicholas was on the pod. He said at the time the club was open for business and they were trying to repair the relationship with sponsors after the last custodian fell out with all and sundry. However there are still empty advertising hoardings all around Huish park and the fan zone is nowhere near what I was.

I personally feel sorry for Stuart Robins, whenever there is bad news he seems to get pushed in front of the camera to deliver the latest dilemma. Where is the comment/statement from the owner? If there are any Yeovil fans bothering to go on Saturday I hope they let the ownership know loud and clear what they think of this latest debacle.

G Thomas

Would like to be optimistic but honestly. I hope DW is ok but did he see enough on Saturday to realise it was mission impossible. He was in no doubt that new players were needed (quality and numbers) and implied some already here weren’t good enough. Who is going to want to come to Yeovil unless there is nothing else available. Utter shambles and I’m fed up of hearing what a great club Yeovil is and they should be doing better. They are what they are at present and that is pretty poor on and off the pitch and will be relegated this season unless there are four worse managed clubs in the league.

Chris Todd gone to Eastleigh as director of football.

Gerry Gill coming in as asst manager in Yeovil

Danny Webb had no personal family issue. He agreed to say that if they let him off his buy out clause on understanding he doesn’t tell everyone they’re skint

He’s rumoured to be following Todd to Eastleigh
