Yeovil Town went down to an all-action Aldershot Town side who deservedly took the three points in an important match at the bottom of the National League Premier Division table.
The visitors had more attacks, shots on Jed Ward in the Glovers’ goal and claimed the victory courtesy of an early opening goal from Olly Scott and a brave header from James Inwood either side of a stunning striker from Fulham loanee Terrell Works.
That equaliser was the only real attempt that the hosts had on goal as Yeovil never got to grips with a dominant performance from the impressive visitors.
First half

Half time: Yeovil Town 1 Aldershot Town 1
Second half
The second half saw Josh Sims replace Dakari Mafico and move out to the right side with James Daly out on the left. Hopefully the change will allow us to get more on the front foot than we did in the first half.
Jake Wannell, who had gone off after heading the back of an Aldershot player’s head, got a fifth booking – and with it a two-match ban starting with Saturday’s visit to Carlisle United – for coming on to the pitch too soon. Referee Greg Rollason is not endearing himself to the home fans.
The visitors have come out of the blocks fast again in this second half, but do look shaky when Yeovil get a bit of tempo going. But, unsurprisingly, the game’s next chance fell to the visitors as Jed Meerhoz got a shot away inside a crowded area and the ball appeared to come off the post before Ward leapt on top of it.

On 67 minutes, Billy Rowley made a double change with Joy Mukena and Ryan Jones, coming on against his former club, replaced Declan Skura and Troy Perrett. The young Cardiff City loanee, who has impressed in his spell in Somerset so far, has had a quiet night. The reshuffle saw Jones go out on the right with Sims dropping in to a number ten role.
A minute after the arrivals, Aldershot had another effort on goal. A storming tackle release Patton and his effort came off the outside of the post and away. I’m no fan of these modern football stats, but the visitors ‘box entries’ will be off the charts!
Jed Ward has made some amazing stops this season, but few better than he did in the 73rd minute. A ball in to the box came off the knee of Wannell and the keeper did superbly to turn it over the bar. But, from the resulting corner the ball dropped inside the box and James PATTON‘s initial shot came off the underside of the bar who bravely headed home. Ward booked for dissent in the aftermath.
You cannot say it had not been coming. A proper mess inside the area for the goal, but the law of averages say that many ‘box entries’ are going to lead to a goal. Reaction required now.

Tahvon Campbell replaced Harvey Greenslade and was involved in the move which led to McCormick finding Works inside the area, but he was denied by a good save from Aldershot keeper Coniah Boyce-Clarke, who had had little to do all evening.
Three minutes in to second half injury time, James Daly put a low ball in to the box and Kyle Ferguson, on as a substitute, was sliding in but did not make a connection with it.
After such a good performance in the 1-1 draw at home to leaders Rochdale at the weekend, it was a difficult one to fathom from the Glovers, but it will be no surprise to anyone that our lack of strikers has been telling again tonight. Credit to Aldershot though, they thoroughly deserved their win.
Aldershot go above us in the table and we drop to 18th in the table, five points clear of the dotted line at the bottom of the table.

After Saturday I thought we had a finally turned a corner as there was much cause for optimism. But that ‘performance’ was absymal..
Trailing at home and no really looked they cared. Really disappointing.
Fair play to Aldershot though. They deserved that and looked everything we weren’t.
We looked off our game from first minute and had little momentum throughout. Sadly, our wafer thin squad is STILL (can I bold/underscore that word?) missing vital components – players who can play beyond 60 minutes Saturday/Tuesday – not one or the other and a mere cameo appearance. It’s not difficult to see we miss the Whittle type of experience, haven’t replaced Efete, and have few options up top with Jarvis out and Campbell can’t play more than 90 mins over 2-3 games. We’ve plenty of wide attacking players masquerading as wingbacks but lacking depth elsewhere. Compared to Saturday it was polar opposite – tonight it was too passive, especially in the middle, while on Saturday we had bite, purpose and a plan…until Jarvis’ red. Time to roll up those sleeves lads!!
