Ex-Glover Gabby Rogers has signed on the dotted line at Torquay United after impressing on trial.

Rogers scored against Torquay for Tiverton last week, before scoring an impressive goal for Torquay on Saturday.

Speaking about the return to his boyhood club Rogers told the club’s official website: “It’s wonderful, it’s great to be back. Obviously I started out here when I was eleven, and was here four or five years until they had to shut the academy down, so it’s great to be back and I just want to get as many games in as possible, and see what happens from there.”

He joins Gary Johnson at Torquay who told the official website: “We were aware of him at Yeovil, and we were aware of him going to Tiverton to keep fit and get a couple of games, so we decided to watch him, but we had already arranged then that he would come in training after the Tiverton game. He didn’t have to impress, but he did.

“He came into training and impressed everybody. He looked the part, of course we played him in the game, and he showed in the game what he could do in training. We looked back at some of his stuff, and we thought that he was something different, something that we could use and nuture, and bring out his potential. If you can do that, you’ve got a player.

“He also comes from good stock. He was born in Torquay and was at Torquay as a young lad, and his dad played for Plymouth. He’s ready now – he’s gone beyond being a youngster, he’s 20 and needs regular games at a good level.”

Rogers left the Glovers at the end of the 2020/21 season.

Former Yeovil Town midfielder Gabriel Rogers has been spotted on trial at Southern League Premier Division side Tiverton Town.

Our friends at WeLoveYouYTFC alerted us to Rogers’ appearance in the Tivvy friendly against Plymouth Parkway which took place on Saturday. (July 31st)

Previously, Rogers had been on trial with Wycombe Wanderers, news we broke here on the Gloverscast in early July.

Rogers left Huish Park under something of a cloud after being left out of Darren Sarrl’s plans for much of the 2020/21 season.

He played 23 times across all competitions for the Glovers, scoring one goal – that last gasp thunderbolt against Bromley in the FA Cup.

All the best at Tiverton, Gabby!

Former Glovers’ winger Gabby Rogers is on trial at League One side Wycombe Wanderers, it appears.

Photographs on social media  show the 20-year-old turning out for  development side at Chesham United on Friday night.
Rogers was released after his contract at Huish Park expired at the end of last season.
In May, he turned out for Southern League Division One South club Willand Rovers, based in Cullompton near to his Devon side.

In what is likely to be one of the least surprising exits of the summer at Yeovil Town, young winger Gabby Rogers has confirmed he has left the club.

The 20-year-old has not featured since the 3-2 defeat in the FA Cup at $tockport County last November, and manager Darren Sarll has said on two occasions that he did not expect Rogers to play again – most recently here.

The player made announcement on his Instagram account which was reposted on Twitter by Eliot at @weloveyouytfc:

Earlier this month, Rogers turned out for Willand Rovers, a club in Cullompton near his Devon home, in a friendly against Clevedon Town – see here.

Rogers made nine appearances for the club this season, having made four last season and seven in the 2018-2019 campaign, and will be best remembered for a last-gasp winner in the FA Cup at Bromley last November.

From all of us on the Gloverscast, we wish Gabby all the best with wherever his career takes him next.

The whereabouts of exiled winger Gabby Rogers appears to have been cleared up.

A player by the same name turned out for Willand Rovers, a Southern League Division One South club based in Cullompton, near Exeter, in a friendly match at Clevedon Town on Friday night.

The team-sheet posted by Clevedon Town shows Gabby appearing as a number 10 for the visiting side.

Clevedon won 3-0 in the friendly fixture.

The Torquay-born winger has not featured since coming off the bench in the 3-2 FA Cup defeat at Stockport County in late Stockport.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Yeovil Town’s National League fixture with King’s Lynn, Glovers’ boss Darren Sarll was asked about the whereabouts of Rogers.

He said: “Nothing has changed from the first time around. I will only play players who want to play for the football club, it does not matter who it is. We want to produce a group of people that are highly committed to the club. Gabby was (committed to the club) but things change.”

If this does mean Gabby’s time as a Yeovil Town player has come to an end, all of us on the Gloverscast wish him the best for his future career.
